[15:00] Isolde Flamand: any of the Rezzables are great
[15:00] Claudia Linden: i heard about strengths learning space...haven't had time to spend there yet.
[15:00] Claudia Linden: love rezzables!!

[15:01] KJ Hax: Hello Patrami!
[15:01] KJ Hax: Pastrami!
[15:01] Docent Alturas: Aloft island, now nonprofit commons 2
[15:01] KJ Hax: Welcome!
[15:01] Pastrami Linden: Hello all
[15:01] Claudia Linden: welcome Pastrami.
[15:01] KJ Hax: All righty then!
[15:01] Claudia Linden: Thanks for the places, folks.
[15:01] KJ Hax: We're ready to begin!
[15:01] KJ Hax: Hi everyone,
[15:01] KJ Hax: for those of you who don't know me,
[15:01] KJ Hax: my name is KJ Hax,
[15:01] KJ Hax: I am a K-20 educator that has
[15:02] KJ Hax: been exploring Second Life for about a year,
[15:02] KJ Hax: and who is responsible for
[15:02] KJ Hax: coordinating the ISTE Speaker Series.
[15:02] KJ Hax: We are thrilled to have you here
[15:02] KJ Hax: to chat with Pastrami Linden
[15:02] KJ Hax: regarding optimization of
[15:02] KJ Hax: the Windlight Viewer.
[15:02] KJ Hax: We are also very please
[15:02] KJ Hax: d
[15:02] KJ Hax: to have with us
[15:02] KJ Hax: Claudia Linden, who
[15:03] KJ Hax: by most accounts is the person we as
[15:03] KJ Hax: educators most thank
[15:03] Claudia Linden: ;D
[15:03] KJ Hax: for this wonderful environment
[15:03] KJ Hax: which we are using every day in new and innovative ways.
[15:03] KJ Hax: Everyone here is
[15:03] KJ Hax: welcome to join ISTE in SL,
[15:03] KJ Hax: we would love to have you!
[15:03] KJ Hax: Now, I will turn it over
[15:03] KJ Hax: to Pastrami....
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: Thanks KJ
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: Claudia, no shouting necessary, correct?
[15:04] Claudia Linden: correct
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: get to se my inside vocie
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: ^use
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: well, for starters, I want to thank all of you for coming,
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: and for doing what is likely one of the nobest noble activities in SL
[15:04] Pastrami Linden: wow, typing is not my forte today, it would appear
[15:05] Pastrami Linden: this session is certainly more attended than last,
[15:05] Claudia Linden: we get the drift
[15:05] Pastrami Linden: which is nice to see
[15:05] Pastrami Linden: so, we decided to hold these hours to address some concern that we were abandoning or some how making certain hardware obsolete,
[15:06] Pastrami Linden: by introduction of WindLight and other new viewer effects
[15:06] Pastrami Linden: and I'm hear to tell you nothing could be further from the truth
[15:06] Pastrami Linden: WindLight was part of a larger endeavor-
[15:06] Pastrami Linden: and one that is revisited frequently
[15:06] Pastrami Linden: to make the rendering part of SL more efficient and streamlined
[15:07] Pastrami Linden: so while WL (WindLight) was introduced for those with high end cards
[15:07] Pastrami Linden: it could be seen as a fresh coat of paint on the same automobile, with the same engine
[15:07] Pastrami Linden: all of this focuses around teh Graphics Preferences Tab
[15:07] Pastrami Linden: found in Edit->Preferences->Graphics
[15:08] Pastrami Linden: now, Torley has done an amazing job describing how to use this
[15:08] Pastrami Linden: let me get all of you a link to his video tutorial
[15:08] Pastrami Linden: this is *required* viewing for anyone concerned with, or using, lower end hardware :)
[15:08] Velouria Infinity: (that video is great + useful)
[15:08] Buffy Beale: yes!
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/11/tip-of-the-week-30-graphics-preferences-guide/
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: there you go
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: so, because I'm not familiar with everyone's expertise level in graphics,
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: I'll make this very basic
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: the more powerful the card,
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: the more features you can turn on
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: but we programmed it in such a way
[15:09] Pastrami Linden: that no card,
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: I repeat..
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: NO card,
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: was suddenly made obsolete or not good enough
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: and I'll go through a micro version of the tutorial right now
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: if you go to Edit->Prefs->Graphics
[15:10] Pastrami Linden: and you turn that slider down to Low
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: you are now looking at a viewer that is identical to, and probably faster than, the old viewer
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: no WindLight
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: no performance hogging
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: in fact, due to new speed ups like avatar impostors
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: see the tutorial for an explanation of what those are
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: it will be faster than the new viewer
[15:11] Bernajena Pinazzo: thanks
[15:11] Pastrami Linden: sorry, than the old viewer
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: in fact,
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: we carefully monitored the statistics,
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: and most older hardware,
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: because of these speedups,
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: runs faster than before
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: especially since they mostly default to "Low"
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: now, this master slider is actually controlling all the little visual features
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: if you click the Custom box to the right
[15:12] Pastrami Linden: it exposes all the underlying features
[15:13] Pastrami Linden: you can seriously tweak everything to your liking
[15:13] Pastrami Linden: the master slider merely aggregates the settings into 4 basic categories
[15:13] Pastrami Linden: based on how high end your machine is
[15:13] Pastrami Linden: with custom turned on, you can move the slider and see things change
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: we try to "guess" based on statistics where each card should be set by default (Low, Med, etc.)
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: but resis are finding their own best settings
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: the best approach
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: is to start at Low
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: then hit Custom
[15:14] Pastrami Linden: and play around with the settings that are important to you
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: again, at Low
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: it wil be faster than before, and none of the new glitter will be on
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: that video tutorial really explains all the features well
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: so if you really don't care about the visuals,
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: a good practice may be to just set your whole lab/classroom to Low
[15:15] Pastrami Linden: and take it from there
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: well, that's the basic version
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: there is one other point I want to address-
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: some people use the new viewers,
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: and because their systems don't work,
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: assume it's because we've pushed the minimum specs
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: i.e., "exclusion paranoia" ;)
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: and I can see how this comes about-
[15:16] Pastrami Linden: shiny new skies
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: system not working
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: A = B
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: but, what actally happens is this-
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: supporting a vast array of hardware leads to a game of whack-a-mole
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: you fix one thing,
[15:17] Pastrami Linden: it exposes shortcomings elsewhere, or driver issues in some cards
[15:18] Pastrami Linden: we like to call this "equal opportunity bugginess"
[15:18] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:18] jokay Wollongong: LOL!
[15:18] Bee Qinan: nvidia...
[15:18] Pastrami Linden: point is- some people with top of the line hardware will have bad results with a new viewer
[15:18] Pastrami Linden: it is NOT just the low end machines
[15:18] Bee Qinan: yes
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: we do our best, but it's tough with such a vast swath of cards and so much driver variation
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: speaking of which, my last point-
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST DRIVERS, ALWAYS!!!!
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: BOLD!
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: CAPS LOCK!
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: if you don't know how to get them,
[15:19] Pastrami Linden: just google your card mfr. (ATI, Nvidia, Intel) and the word drivers
[15:20] Pastrami Linden: some machines, like Macs, get their updates in one fell swoop with an OS upgrade
[15:20] Pastrami Linden: / update
[15:20] Pastrami Linden: okay, that's it
[15:20] Pastrami Linden: opening now to questions- please IM me and I will process in turn
[15:21] Pastrami Linden: Velouria Infinity: question: why not allow different clients to login concurrently like you were promising months ago?
[15:21] Pastrami Linden: you mean multiple clients on the same machine, logged in simultaneously?
[15:22] Velouria Infinity: different versions of the client
[15:22] Pastrami Linden: not to sound snarky, but I don't know who promised that- we in the graphics team have always said that -multiple is not a supported feature
[15:22] Docent Alturas: For a while my computers were crashing to a CGA display. I wanted to thank you for whatever was done so that now it doesn't happen. Much better SL experience.
[15:23] Velouria Infinity: kk
[15:23] Pastrami Linden: it's there, but it's use at your own risk
[15:23] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:23] Pastrami Linden: [15:21] Bee Qinan: i heard that the new viewer has problems in combination with nvidia gforce 8800 gt cards...now, i crash all the time, and i have that c rd...
[15:23] Pastrami Linden: RC or main viewer?
[15:23] Bee Qinan: the 1.20
[15:23] Bee Qinan: i went back to the 1.19.4
[15:23] Bee Qinan: because of that
[15:23] Pastrami Linden: have you given RC a shot?
[15:24] Bee Qinan: RC?
[15:24] Pastrami Linden: (Release Candidate)
[15:24] Bee Qinan: the latest? yes
[15:24] Pastrami Linden: these are sort of like beta viewers-
[15:24] Bee Qinan: well it gives text distortions for me
[15:24] Bee Qinan: one letter keeps repeating
[15:24] Pastrami Linden: http://secondlife.com/community/downloads-optional.php
[15:25] Bee Qinan: ty
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: always try out RC viewers if the mian one isn't working
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: ^main
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: they include latest fixes
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: they may have other unknown issues
[15:25] Docent Alturas: Is the main viewer usually more stable than the Release Candidate?
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: but a lot of goodness
[15:25] Docent Alturas: Graphically speaking that is...
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: theoretically, yes
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: but as of late,
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: I'd say the opposite is true
[15:25] Pastrami Linden: because we're working so hard with each RC on nailing graphics crashes and bugs
[15:26] Pastrami Linden: [15:21] Artotem Tolsen: Why is Babbler broken for everyone now? Very sad!
[15:26] Pastrami Linden: Not sure I even know-
[15:26] Pastrami Linden: not my team :\
[15:26] Claudia Linden: we'll ask around about babbler
[15:27] Pastrami Linden: [15:23] katfancy Kiergarten: I have an Intel Chipset less than 945, will it be compatible with SL in the future?
[15:27] Artotem Tolsen: Thanks
[15:27] Pastrami Linden: katfancy,
[15:27] Artotem Tolsen: Its essential for many.
[15:27] Docent Alturas: Is there a way to force environments so that everyone on a parcel is seeing the same time of day. Sort of an over ride for personal preferences?
[15:28] Pastrami Linden: we're kind of like an old friend moving away from our hometown when it comes to INtel integrated
[15:28] Pastrami Linden: meaning,
[15:28] Pastrami Linden: the more we keep developing
[15:28] Pastrami Linden: the harder it is to stay in touch (read: keep supporting) old Intel ones
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: for now, yes
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: you are fine
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: but just liek analog TV is being phased out
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: *eventually* we'll have to cut the cord
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: but again, for now, no plans to cut it
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: we will just have to keep making new features optional
[15:29] Pastrami Linden: so older cards can play :)
[15:29] katfancy Kiergarten: works fine for me on 1.19.0, but had some problems with 1.19.1
[15:30] Pastrami Linden: [15:23] Blu Heron: Can't use latest version..get message that need new drivers and insufficient RAM...Radeon Xpress (ATI) apparently has no new drivers, and I had enough RAM before...any ideas on how to update my machine?
[15:30] Leslie Beaumont: is this the advertised sicussion of hardware?
[15:30] Pastrami Linden: Blu, this with RC or main ?
[15:30] Blu Heron: main
[15:30] Pastrami Linden: try RC
[15:31] Blu Heron: kk
[15:31] Pastrami Linden: [15:25] Velouria Infinity: question: any plan for a cut-down version? meaning memory-footprint wise, no-integrated-build version etc? [15:30] Velouria Infinity: that's a key. optional which leads to "many clients" or...
[15:31] Pastrami Linden: yes
[15:31] Pastrami Linden: but nothing definite-
[15:31] Pastrami Linden: we're exploring a lot of different options
[15:31] Pastrami Linden: for a slimmer or web-based client
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: 's all I can say at the moment :)
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: [15:29] Kyle Thorn: When you gut 945/965, will you also cut X1300 and the newer "standalone integrated" hybrids?
[15:32] Velouria Infinity: I think that's a good move, based on our client's request
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: unlikely
[15:32] Leslie Beaumont: I've been using OnRez a lot of the time since 1.19.1.4 came out
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: whereas the X1300 is *slow*, the 945 simply *can't* run certain things
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: what I think will happen is this
[15:32] Pastrami Linden: as we add new features
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: like better trees, real shadows,
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: etc. etc. etc.
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: mroe and more people will keep building for new cards
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: again, like a VHS/DVD progression
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: anyway, you get the drift
[15:33] Pastrami Linden: we would *like* everyone to run better HW
[15:34] Pastrami Linden: but we know we can't ask of everyone to go spend $200 on a new graphics card
[15:34] Pastrami Linden: [15:32] Buffy Beale: What future graphic enhancements would you like to see in SL?
[15:34] Pastrami Linden: hehe, me personally, Buffy?
[15:34] Leslie Beaumont: its worse than that, i cant change my graphics card at all. laptop.
[15:34] Buffy Beale: yes, wishful thinking cap on
[15:34] Buffy Beale: off the record
[15:34] Velouria Infinity: the argument of laptops is key here and in edu enviroments expecially
[15:35] Velouria Infinity: budgets are constrained when not frozen completely
[15:35] Velouria Infinity: and I ask the other ppl here
[15:35] Leslie Beaumont: i was able to improve things by downloading new driver...
[15:35] Pastrami Linden: Buffy
[15:35] Buffy Beale: I can wait this is interesting discussion
[15:35] Pastrami Linden: in no particular order
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: shadows, speedtree, ambient occlusion, material system
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: nimble 3d clouds
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: godrays
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: caustics in water
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: google anything that doesn't make sense there :)
[15:36] Buffy Beale: wowie you tugged hard on your cap, thanks :)
[15:36] Velouria Infinity: lol
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: hehe
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: when you live and breathe this stuff, yeah
[15:36] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:37] Buffy Beale: :) it shows you and your team are dedicated
[15:37] Pastrami Linden: oh yeah
[15:37] Buffy Beale: despite what they say about SL, its still awesome
[15:37] Pastrami Linden: [15:33] Bee Qinan: lately, i have some light flickering in sl, and for me as machinima maker thats a terrible thing. What could cause this? it seems to be worst in 1.20 and after...
[15:37] Pastrami Linden: well known problem, I believe a fix will come out with RC3
[15:37] Artotem Tolsen: Any chance there will be a Japanese translation of this dicussion? :-)
[15:37] Bee Qinan: lol
[15:37] Bee Qinan: oh i hope so
[15:38] Bee Qinan: when will t that be?
[15:38] Bee Qinan: i ahve a mayor shoot next week
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: I believe today or tomorrow-
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: it was out esterday
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: yesterday
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: then got pulled due to a major bug
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: crashing on edit appearance
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: should get redeployed soon
[15:38] Pastrami Linden: keep checking the blog
[15:39] Bee Qinan: will do
[15:39] Bee Qinan: ty ty
[15:39] Pastrami Linden: [15:34] Corinne Fleury: Is there a resource that aligns availability of windlght features with compatible graphics cards? I have a NVIDIA geforce 8600 on a mbp and a NVIDIA quadro on a pc and many of the features that are enabled on the 8600 are not available with the quadro. And will the compatibility ever change, or will only a graphics card upgrade enable the new wl features?
[15:39] Pastrami Linden: great question
[15:39] Pastrami Linden: we actually manually do it
[15:39] Pastrami Linden: based on statistical averages of framerate
[15:39] Pastrami Linden: we decide what they should and shouldn't have on by default
[15:40] Pastrami Linden: it's impossible to get perfect, which is why we evangelize use of the "Custom" box
[15:40] Pastrami Linden: [15:37] Kittygloom Cassady: Before the update, everything worked fine for me. Now, half the time when I walk around, I have these enormous colored triangles coming out of my head and some of the surrounding objects. I've tried updating all of my drivers, etc., but nothing has worked.
[15:40] Docent Alturas: Is Windlight a stand alone SL client or is it in the Environments Setting in the latest RC. I just got a question from another person looking for Windlight.
[15:40] Pastrami Linden: Kitty, RC or main?
[15:40] Kittygloom Cassady: main
[15:41] Pastrami Linden: what's my answer everyone?
[15:41] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:41] Bee Qinan: uhhh
[15:41] Bee Qinan: its integrated
[15:41] Pastrami Linden: yeppers
[15:41] Pastrami Linden: though it is a known issue-
[15:41] Pastrami Linden: I hope we get to it soon
[15:42] Pastrami Linden: if it's not already squashed
[15:42] Pastrami Linden: it's been tough to crack
[15:42] Buffy Beale: Does it help when we send in the crash reports?
[15:42] Pastrami Linden: yes
[15:42] Pastrami Linden: I know it doesn't seem like it, but yes
[15:42] Bee Qinan: i send about 20, last 2 days, ha
[15:42] Pastrami Linden: to answer Docent-
[15:43] Pastrami Linden: estate settable WindLight settings are next upon our list
[15:43] Pastrami Linden: then WL settings as tradeable assets
[15:43] Blu Heron: Kitty, someone told me to get rid of the triangles, >Advanced and uncheck Show Updates
[15:44] Kittygloom Cassady: thanks, Blu
[15:44] Blu Heron: :)
[15:44] Pastrami Linden: another possible fix is Graphics->Hardware Options
[15:44] Pastrami Linden: disable VBO
[15:44] Pastrami Linden: [15:40] Artotem Tolsen: Any chance there will be a Japanese translation of this discussion? :-)
[15:44] Pastrami Linden: depends, do you speak Japanese? :)
[15:44] Blu Heron: or you can turn off particles, but then don't see all the neat stuff in SL
[15:44] Artotem Tolsen: Many I know do.
[15:44] Artotem Tolsen: And would love to hear this,
[15:45] Artotem Tolsen: Sammy in audience does
[15:45] Pastrami Linden: no, no plans, but if any enterprising listeners out there from the island of Nippon would like to do us a favor ... :)
[15:45] Pastrami Linden: [15:40] Velouria Infinity: question: while all my stats are up with Windlight regardless of what hardware we are using and that's why we are so happy with this client it seems that texture prioritization is stll lagging. Do you see this and if so, any plans to deliver a better client with regard to texture download prioritization?
[15:45] Pastrami Linden: first off, that's great to hear (the first part)
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: re: texture prioritization, that's a major project we have planned
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: not in the ultra-immediate future
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: but soon
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: [15:44] Buffy Beale: Pastrami, on the crash reports, what info would you like us to put in, i.e. do you need our OS ver etc?
[15:46] Velouria Infinity: that's good to hear, ty
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: nope, we get all of that automagically
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: alright, queue is empty
[15:46] Pastrami Linden: any others?
[15:47] Bee Qinan: are there bugs with the nvidia cards?
[15:47] Pastrami Linden: there are some bugs with all the cards
[15:47] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:47] Bee Qinan: and sl, compatable i mean
[15:47] Pastrami Linden: but truth be told, NV is far better off than ATI
[15:47] Bee Qinan: ok
[15:47] Pastrami Linden: anyone else?
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: may institute a countdown then
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: oh, there we go
[15:48] Docent Alturas: Thanks...
[15:48] Bee Qinan: and another question...some people talk about sl leaking memory. is that so and how can it be stopped
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: yes
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: big time
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: huge problem
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: enormous
[15:48] Bee Qinan: pew
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: catastrophic, even!
[15:48] Bee Qinan: help us then
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: we're cracking the whip internally
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: the guy next to me is working hard on it
[15:48] Pastrami Linden: in fact, both of the guys next to me are :)
[15:49] Bee Qinan: ah he s a hero!
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: it's one of our top priority
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: ^ies
[15:49] Bee Qinan: ok and so are u
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: awwww
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: thank yee verily
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: [15:48] Blu Heron: I don't see the answer to Q: is [15:48] Blu Heron: windlight a stand alone or in RC?
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: windlight is a feature in the main viewer by now and in RC
[15:49] Pastrami Linden: anything else?
[15:50] Blu Heron: but windlight is only apprent if you have settings high enough
[15:50] Bee Qinan: this session is great
[15:50] Artotem Tolsen: Very helpful
[15:50] Blu Heron: Yes very helpful..THANKS!!!!
[15:51] Artotem Tolsen: I may be able to help solve some issues for others now.
[15:51] KJ Hax: Thank you so much Pastrami!
[15:51] Buffy Beale: Great, thanks very much!
[15:51] Zotarah Shepherd: Thank you Pastrami!
[15:51] Pastrami Linden: of course
[15:51] Miles Beck: Thanks Pastrami!
[15:51] jokay Wollongong: Hoooray Pastrami... and thanks ISTE ;)
[15:51] Bee Qinan: thanks
[15:51] Pastrami Linden: I like the pretty- and I want others to be able to understand it too
[15:51] Pastrami Linden: :)
[15:51] Pastrami Linden: [15:50] Corinne Fleury: is there a fix for the system skirt issue? the workaronds work temporarily, but it still is a recurring problem. [15:50] Corinne Fleury: arounds^
[15:51] Isolde Flamand: one last question: how in the world did you choose the name "Pastrami"?
[15:51] Bee Qinan: good question
[15:51] Claudia Linden: Thanks, ISTE. Thanks, Pastrami.
[15:51] Pastrami Linden: that has been an impossible bug to find
[15:52] Pastrami Linden: it seems correlated to network connection
[15:52] Pastrami Linden: a packet loss issue, almost
[15:52] Pastrami Linden: it increases with wireless connections
[15:52] Pastrami Linden: that's about as much as we've been able to determine
[15:52] Bee Qinan: ah i have another question
[15:53] Bee Qinan: i use the space navigator, and have that word : flycam in my movies now
[15:53] Pastrami Linden: [15:52] Velouria Infinity: question: please do not answer this if you feel is confusing or brings some conflicting between you and OpenSource... Nickolaz recently patched Windlight with mostly all of his fixes. I've seen this via one of our business partner running it most of the time and never crashing. Do you believe LL will embrace Nicholaz's work?
[15:53] Pastrami Linden: the problem with the Nicholasz viewer
[15:53] Pastrami Linden: is that it does make things more stable,
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: but using code that disables things or does them incorrectly,
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: I don't know much more than that, but I can give an analogy
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: a building has two elevators
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: one is slow and stops ar every floor to check its cables
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: you hate it, it's sluggish, etc.
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: then the second one opens
[15:54] Pastrami Linden: it is fast and slick
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: but it just does it by turning off the safety check at each floor
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: great for you
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: bad for us
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: the answer is to fix the safety checks so they're more efficient
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: not turn them off
[15:55] Kyle Thorn: Only great for us until the cable snaps.
[15:55] Velouria Infinity: I understand that. Good analogy
[15:55] Pastrami Linden: but, admittedly, people love it
[15:55] Blu Heron: LOVE your analogies, Pastrami!
[15:55] Claudia Linden: Last story, Pastrami? Your name?
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: and I dont know enough to say whether the "cable snap" is all that bad
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: so go forth, use it!
[15:56] Velouria Infinity: :)
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: but at your own risk, bla bla bla
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: okay, let's see
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: Pastrami?
[15:56] Pastrami Linden: well, I showed up at work, we had to pick our name

[15:57] Pastrami Linden: so little surprise it was floating up there anyway
